The most common beginner mistake is treating the Chest Keys as the goal. Finding the second Chest Key ends the stage, so every Point Upgrade and Point Boost you haven't collected yet is gone. Gather as many upgrades and boosts as you can before the second key shows up.
Point Upgrades raise the quality of the chest (up to three upgrades), and Point Boosts add +1 to the final number of chests opened. A stage that ends early with an unupgraded chest is worth far less than one where you cleared the safe tiles first.
Your first key is always a blind find — there's no known way to predict it. But once you have it, it may be worth more than the tile it was on. Many players suspect key positions come in linked pairs, where the first key's position influences where the second one is placed.
